What is a Herdshare?
RKS FARMS Herdshare is a program that allows our farm to legally sell raw goat milk and goat dairy products to the community. We have about 100 herdshare owners that own an interest in our milk goat herd. To become an owner you purchase a share or a herdshare. As an owner you are obligated to pay weekly boarding fees. As an owner you are then entitled to the milk and dairy products that we produce from your goats. To the left is a Bill of Sale used to purchase your herdshare. You select the number of shares to purchase based upon the amount of product you want to purchase per week or per month. One herdshare currently is $6.00. A herdshare is a ONE-TIME purchase. The Bill of Sale is signed by you, the BUYER, and signed by RKS FARMS as the SELLER. Upon completion of the Bill of Sale and payment you are an OWNER. This requires that you pay a $6 weekly boarding fee or $24 per month. Months that have 5 Wednesdays will be billed for 5 weeks of boarding fees.
Herdshare Prices
Each dairy item we produce has a value in boarding fees as shown in the table. Raw Goat milk is bottled in quartz glass bottles. We have ONLY one size – quart (32oz). ONE boarding fee entitles the owner to ONE quart of raw goat milk. An 8 oz tub of Chèvre cheese is TWO boarding fees. Look over the product list and decide what you think you would consume in a month. Add up the total boarding fees to see what you would spend in a month. We invoice monthly for your boarding fees. When your invoice is paid, we add a CREDIT to your online farmstore account. Our online farmstore is found on our website. Click the SHOP button at the top of the page to go to the STORE. With your CREDIT you shop for milk, cheese, buttermilk or whatever dairy items you like. You select the day, time and how to get your product. You can pick it up at our farmstore, a nearby farmers market or we can deliver to you if you are in an area that we cover. Currently we are delivering to Silverton, Mt. Angel, Salem, Keizer, Stayton, Canby, Oregon City, Lake Oswego, Beaverton, Tigard and Portland. If you do NOT see your city in this list, give us a call or an email, and we can check to see if we can deliver to your area.
Let’s Calculate Cost to Get Started
The first thing to do is to decide what products you want, how many and how often. So let’s say you decided to have product delivered every TWO weeks to your front door. On WEEK ONE you select FOUR quarts of milk and ONE feta cheese. For WEEK THREE you select FOUR quarts of milk and one quart of Goat Buttermilk That’s a total of TWELVE (12) boarding fees used that month. If you purchase THREE (3) HERDSHARES, you would pay for TWELVE boarding fees per month or THREE (3) shares x FOUR (4) weeks = TWELVE (12) TOTAL BOARDING FEES.
