Our chickens are started in the barn and then at three to four weeks are put out and raised on pasture. They are kept in a “chicken tractor” to provide feed, water, fresh grass, and security. Our grass pastures are maintained naturally without chemicals, herbicides or fertilizers. Pastured chickens that browse on grass, grubs and earthworms have higher concentrations of omega-3-fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), both of which have been associated with an increased benefit to one’s health.
